Red Butte Garden: Botanical Garden Paradise

Red Butte Garden

If you’re wondering what to do in Salt Lake City, look no further! Red Butte Garden is a peaceful oasis of horticulture perched just below the mountains of the Salt Lake Valley. The outdoor garden serves as the state Arboretum and is home to hundreds of different flowers, trees, and plant species. The gardens are also a popular spot for weddings and other celebrations. The 100 acres of themed gardens offer the perfect nature getaway, and the workshops, concerts, hiking trails, and more will keep you busy all day long! Red Butte should be on the list for anyone planning to visit Salt Lake.

Red Butte Garden quickly became a beloved Utah destination after it was founded in 1985. It was originally used by University of Utah researchers and was designated as the state’s Arboretum in 1961. The garden has been constantly expanding ever since. The newest addition was a water conservation garden which opened at the end of May 2017.

When visiting the garden, you will first enter the visitor’s center. A gift shop offers local artwork, flower seeds, and keepsakes. Up the stairs is a large open space decorated with current local artwork inspired by Utah’s gorgeous outdoors. After leaving the visitor’s center you will reach the gardens, and signs will direct you to the many different attractions. You can choose to see the herb, medicinal, and fragrance gardens; or the floral walk leading to the water pavilion; or visit the children’s garden with your young ones. There is something for everyone!
