He was in charge during construction of The Cathedral of the Madeleine. The process began in the year 1900 and was completed 9 years later on August 15, 1909. The cathedral combines a Romanesque exterior with a Gothic interior. The building process involved two architects, Carl M. Newhausen and Bernard O. Mecklenburg. The property was purchased 10 years before construction began, in 1890, for $35,000 and the total cost of the cathedral was $344,000.
