History of North Capitol Hill

North Capitol Hill is known as Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City. From its name, we can see Utah state capitol is located on this district. Utah state capitol is one of the landmarks of Salt Lake City. The state capitol was built between 1912 and 1916, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Because Salt Lake City area has earthquake risk, in 2004, government planned to renovate the building. After renovation, the strength of the building can stand as much as a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Things you must see at North Capitol Hill

State capitol is a great place to see. It has a giant building with broad space. There is a trod on the front of the building, cherry trees by the sides. During spring and summer, this lane will be full of pink; so now is a good time to take a look. State capitol is one of the landmarks of Salt Lake City, many visitors will come to this place, so they have a lot of parking area for visitors. On the east downside of state capitol, there is a beautiful park called City Creek Canyon. It is a great respite from the summer heat. The “path” in City Creek Canyon is a 5.8 mile paved canyon road for bikes with permit, and is closed to public automobiles. Inside the park, many couple take wedding photos from here. A creek flows from upper mountain through the whole park. Also, there are some monuments in the park, recording ancient Indians’ history. Locals love here very much. Best place to overlook Salt Lake City

If you prefer natural scenery, or you are a photographer, Ensign peak will be your ideal place. Ensign peak is a prominent small mountain peak at the north end of the Salt Lake Valley, with a 0.9-mile and 364 feet of the trip, easy trail for most hikers. Generally speaking, it will take about 15-30 minutes to get the summit, then you will have marvelous views out over the downtown area and Great Salt Lake. Brigham Young and seven other leaders climbed the mountain, then they decided the city they intended to build. Besides, an important history, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its pioneers is beside the mountain. Ensign Peak is a wonderful, short, and family-style hike place. Because it is a short lane hike, bringing children to watch sunrise and sunset is a good choice for families. Especially at sunset, the Great Salt Lake can be seen in the distance to the northwest. There are more adventurous paths for hikers, another path on the opposite of the summit lead to a higher and farther summit, where most of Davis County can be seen.IMG_0234
